Ministries related to our Worship Services
Acolytes
Acolytes serve on Sundays, as well as for other special services. Our acolytes range in age from 10 – 90. If you are interested in this kind of service, please let one of the clergy know.
Altar Guild
The purpose of the Altar Guild is to assist the clergy of the parish in care and preparation of the altars for weekly services and in many other aspects of worship. The members are led by the Directress of the Guild, Suzie McCurdy, and in accordance with the instructions of the Rector.
Chalice Bearers
Chalice bearers at St. Peter’s assist in our Sunday services and may even help take Communion to our shut-in members. If you are interested in this kind of service, please let one of the clergy know.
Delegate to Diocesan Convention
Delegates to the convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada act as the voice and vote of the congregation at the diocesan level. The term is one-year. Delegates and alternates are elected at the annual parish meeting each Fall. Anyone interested in serving as a delegate or learning more should contact a member of the Vestry or clergy.
Greeters / Ushers
Each Sunday, a team of Greeters is available before and after each service to extend a warm welcome to visitors and answer any questions they may have. This is a vital part of how St. Peter’s continues to be experienced as a very welcoming church. Greeter teams are usually scheduled for service every other month.
Lectors
The office of reader, or lector, is among the oldest, if not the oldest of liturgical lay ministries. Serving as a Lector gives our parishioners the opportunity to participate in leading worship by reading the scriptural lessons, the psalms, and prayers of the people. Scriptural readings are assigned well in advance, so the Lector has time to read the passage at home, and practice its presentation. If you are interested in this kind of service, please let one of the clergy know.
Vestry / Finance Committee
The Vestry is the governing body for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Members are elected each Fall at the annual meeting and serve three-year terms. Vestry positions include the Senior and Junior Wardens that oversee the planning, management and vision of the Vestry as well as care of the physical building and church grounds. Members of the Finance Committee are entrusted with tracking the income, expenses and investments of the church and making financial recommendations to the Vestry for action or resolution. Anyone interested in serving on either the Vestry or the Finance Committee should contact a member of the Vestry or clergy.
Vestry meetings are held at 6 pm on the second Tuesday of each month in the parish hall or library and are open to all members of the congregation to attend as a guest. Minutes of each Vestry meeting are displayed on the bulletin board in the parish hall.
