Annual Lenten Lecture Series
In 2004, St. Peter’s began an adult educational ministry to bring nationally-known authors to Carson City in hopes of fostering lively and spirit-filled discussion and growth within our community and beyond. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting and learning from such teachers as Marcus Borg (twice!), John Dominic Crossan, Walter Wink, Joan Borysenko, Wayne Muller, Michael Dowd, Frank Schaeffer, Carolyn Baker and Tex Sample. The event takes place over one weekend during Lent. Our guest for 2014 was Dr. Marcus Borg who returned to help us celebrate 10 years since his inauguration of this Lecture Series.
Our guest for 2015 was our own Bishop of Nevada, Dan Edwards. His workshop was based on material from his recently published book, God of Our Silent Tears.
Adult Education Forum
The aim of the Forum is to help parishioners deepen their understanding of the Christian faith and how that faith is relevant in a difficult and uncertain world. The Forum can take many forms: a lecture/presentation by a renowned guest speaker, a round-table moderated by a member of St. Peter’s clergy, or perhaps a discussion led by a group of parishioners. Although the number of parishioners who participate regularly is strong and growing, the Forum retains the intimacy of a small discussion group.
Sophia’s Salon Reading Group
Sophia’s (from the Greek “wisdom”) Salon reading group meets at a member’s home the fourth Friday of each month from 5:45 pm to 8:30 pm, beginning with a shared meal. Each yearly schedule offers an eclectic collection of titles, which may include classic or contemporary fiction, non-fiction, biography, memoir, and even poetry. Members may – but need not – volunteer to lead. Discussions are engaging, lively, wide-ranging and frequently travel into topics merely inspired by the particular book. Our objectives are rich fellowship, enhanced appreciation of the world beyond ourselves, and fun. For further information, please contact Karen Kish through the Church Office.
Mary~Martha Guild

The Fall of 2013 witnessed the creation of a women’s guild that combines spiritual formation through experiencing the ancient Wisdom tradition with a willingness to be of service to St. Peter’s and the wider community. We are delighted to watch the synergy (and laughter) that results when we combine study with service. Meetings are held in the Parish Hall from 5:30 to 7 pm on the second Thursday of each month. All women of St. Peter’s are welcome, as are their friends.
The Jean Moltz Sunshine Ladies’ Group

Prayer Shawl Knitters Group
